HP Slate, iPad killer?

This is how the HP Slate looks like.

This is how the HP Slate looks like.

Well it looks a lot smaller than the iPad which looks quite huge to me. The HP Slate runs a custom Windows 7 version which makes it capable of running all your favorite PC apps (well, don’t expect to play games like Crysis and such). Let’s take a look at it’s features.

The iPad has the most storage, cheap 3G, the time-tested iPhone OS and its mountain of apps, and a serious amount of Apple marketing juice behind it. But it’s also famously lacking features common to the other tablets, such as webcam and multitasking (only first party apps like music and email can multitask).

Comparing iPad – HP Slate (VS)
OS: Windows 7 VS iPhone OS
Browser: Whichever you want VS Safari
Adobe Flash: Yes VS No
Multitasking: Yes VS No
Camera: Yes VS No
Processor: Intel Atom 1.86Ghz VS 1Ghz ARM
Storage: 32-64GB VS Same, but doesn’t really matter anyway
Wireless: WiFi, Bluetooth VS Same, however the new iPad comes with 3G

What do you think about the HP Slate? Is it really an iPad killer?

HP Slate will probably not sell as well since iPad will be marketed much more, but I believe iPad will not do as well as expected because consumers don’t need one.

My prediction is that iPod Touch’s will go up in sales from people who don’t have one and who are kind of interested in the iPad.

I know that I’m buying a Slate, no matter what the price. I need it for drawing.

Same, I need a tablet for drawing as well, but I don’t know about finger touchscreens like iPad, HP Slate.. I’d rather get myself a Wacom Cintiq for drawing.

Would be cool if there’s a stylus for HP Slate.

Wacom’s cost through the roof. Would be a great decision on HP’s part if the touch screens worked well with a stylus.

If it worked with a stylus it could have to be a resistive touch screen which isn’t very finger friendly. My guess is that most casual people just wanna use their fingers. You could always get one of those weird iPhone stylus’.

Any ways, I wont be getting the iPad or HP Slate. I don’t really like tablet computing, I like have a real keyboard with a real mouse/touch pad. I really hope this touchscreen fad doesn’t stay for long. And if it does have a touchscreen give me some sort of way to do ‘hard’ input. Like how the Milestone has a real keyboard & a touchscreen.

    Yup exactly. You’re my man.

The iPad can’t be killed if it never sells enough to be “born”. But like always apple fanboys and girls will jump to buy it. the HP slate is better then the iPad at least on paper

I’d prefer HP slate over iPad any day. Steve Jobs was saying that iPad has to be “better than a labtop in key features such as browsing the web, games, photos etc”
How can you enjoy browsing the web when you don’t even have flash enabled?
HP slate is an iPad killer :P
